Maybe because this book was in my mother tongue, and surely because it was well written, I have managed to read a bigger part of it of the computer screen, which sometimes maybe painful. It is a brilliant, yet sad and disturbing book, that describes the practices of giant concerns in the name of financial gain. Moreover the book allows to get a fresh (although it is 10 years old) look on some of the events that maybe known but have never been described in a greater detail. I have to admit that I had to focus on the parts about a corporal censorship and there is still some of the book left to read for me but the fragments that I skimmed have been in my head ever since.

A good example would be recently realised film “Alice in Wonderland” directed by Tim Burton. Normally I would wait for it and watch it with curiosity, waiting to be surprised by incredible Burton’s imagination. However somehow inspired by Klein’s book I looked at the concern sponsoring – Disney, than I looked at ESRB rating – PG. This basically meant the movie will be suitable for kids,  do not expect reinvention of the story like in America’s McGee. And I thought.. I wish Disney would allow Tim Burton to the movie like he imagines, not restricting him by making it a family entertainment. How much better the movie could have been if it was darker and more surrealistic. I think that this is what you initially expect from Alice, but you won’t find it in Dinsey movie. Apart from one scene, when Alice joins the tea party and suddenly the villains arrive. The computer generated bunny and mouse, together with awesome Johnny Depp’s acting showed a small piece of potential. The viewer could really believe in the madness of those characters that only multiplied the tension.

It is really a pity that we see less, and less of the director’s vision and more, and more of just dry calculation of gains and making the movie accessible to the largest possible audience (same thing happened to Die Hard). I know Alice supposed to be a child’s story, but we also know that there is a scary and hallucinogenic potential in it. Why give the movie to Burton and heighten the audience hopes, when you restrict its vision to be suitable for younger viewers. It is suddenly so obvious, it is only about they hype, the “trademark” of the name, not about the ideas that its represents.

Don’t get me wrong it is as well the best feeling ever, but there are moments when you could use a straightforward – 8-10 hour day, and than few proper hours of entertainment/rest and good night sleep.. But this is when it strikes back most powerfully. So you are in bed, trying to fall asleep and while you close your eyes or you can see is your script/graphic and you start thinking. What to do next? How to compenstae for the function that you have just gave up? How to keep the flow going? How to link accesibilty and your wonderful idea for the next visual? It seems, and in fact, it is sometimes endless.  You finnaly overcome your insomnia, and than, wait a minute time to get up..

What is worse, the deadline is still rather far away, but in a few weeks the feeling will tripple its power. And this is when many creative people has to engage into only possible solution – get wasted, or more permanent – start working while other sleep. It is a brriliant, natural idea (working late, not getting wasted, well.. both are) – you are awake, when no one other is, you have got peace and quiet, there are no new articles on your favourite internet portal, nobody pokes you on facebook, all the good movies have just finished, the only thing left is to do some work, and get yourself so tired, that at 6 o’clock in the morning you will be sleeping like a baby.

Probably a very good link to start this post. I have not visited this place for over a year, while the sheer idea of blogging is not smth that would apply to my persona. Nevertheless the visit I have to “the darkest corner of the internet”  after a long absence turned out to be quite fruitful, and browsing through this text that have been created only to pass idiotic PDP unit, have to admit was pleasant. And since I came back from my holidays a changed man – managed to quit smoking, started liking green tea, than who knows maybe it is the same thing with blogging.

In the same time, I am finishing being an IMP in a few months.. So the occasion to promote my major project via this sad place, is as good exscuse as anything else to start pouring some thoughts into the weirdly looking grey chart.

And why the hell there is mine photo in the top left corner, I do not recall putting anything like that.

Going back to my major project as to describe it I use the quote from my PA:

“Circus of Madness” is a point and click/adventure, flash game that takes place inside mad clowns head. Player, who takes the control over the main character – crazy clown named Looneypound, has to travel through surrealistic world designed by clown’s twisted subconscious. The aim of the game is to travel through different locations and to collect pieces of sanity scattered around in order to help the clown put his mind “back onto the right tracks”. The game implements the classic rules of point and click genre through its logical riddles and mouse controls.

So far it is going, but horribly slow, but.. I love the visuals, they just add so much in comparison to really annoying, vector flash animations and graphics that you can find everywhere. While mine usage of textures, inspired by wonderful “Machinarium” adds the graphical value to the project (in the same time makes it a gigantic pain in the ass to animate it). At some point I will definitely put some sample graphics in here, but lets face it is 3 o’clock in the morning and apart from the short break during lecture I have been looking into computer screen all day, I think I deserve a few hours break.

I think this project has made me really tired. I just did not feel like doing it, and the topic I chose turned out to be a real pain in the ass. Not only I had to draw every single bloody frame, but also I had to animate animals which do not exist for thousands of years, so it left everything  to my imagination. I guess  I hate works which say : prepare the project on any topic of your choice. I would rather have it more precise. I am quite happy from the end results and mostly from my essay which I hope will erase the last bad impression. I will try to post the whole work somewhere on the server to present it to my friends and family, lets be sensible, no other people visit this blog.

I feel like I have become a bit more a part of the IMP community. I am guessing that the relationships created during the production will haunt me down throughout the rest of the course .
